Wasteless FinOps Audit Template
A report skeleton that works in Git, Notion or your governance tool.
Five numbers, five meanings
| Measure | Definition | Use |
|---|---|---|
| Detected waste | Cost tied to signals within detector coverage | Size the observed scope |
| Potential savings | Monthly estimate if selected recommendations are applied | Prioritize, not promise |
| Annualized potential | Monthly potential multiplied by 12 | Illustrate a theoretical ceiling |
| Realized savings | Effect observed after an action | Track execution |
| Confirmed savings | Outcome verified against billing evidence | Communicate a firm result |

Evidence rules
Do not add RDS, EKS or another service to Wasteless coverage without a documented external analysis.
An empty VPC is a €0 hygiene signal, not direct savings.
Do not present a partial run as an exhaustive account view.
Do not add estimates and confirmed savings into one total.
Document commitments, discounts, credits, taxes and workload changes not represented by the static model.
